The lure of the elephant

Who would care to guess the identity of the secret attractive force deep within the elephant statue at the Ibn Battuta Mall?

Whatever it is, it seems to draw Indians - of all ages and social status - towards it, digicam and cheesy smiles in hand.

Any suggestions? I am mystified by this strange little pecularity - a deeper cultural meaning maybe?

didn't like it at all - a bit too big and hasn't really got anything special about it other than its size, which takes the piss.

Very true, personally I can't see what all the fuss is about. It's a little annoying having to walk around the swearm of people gathered round it!

There is some mechanism inside that makes parts of this strange statue move, but it is a completely unfufilling experience.

Ever heard of Ganesh - probably not. How can you be surrounded by India and its people and still know next to nothing about them?
